Seeing a blue whale is quite rare, but when it does happen, it is definitely a memorable experience. WebTypically, whales will breathe several times before diving again and then can stay underwater for a period of time—usually 5-15 minutes. Sperm and beaked whales (both of which are kinds of toothed whales) can even last an hour underwater before coming to the surface for another breath.
